About the practice

Cardinal Health Services

Measured care for the mind's long work

Our story

Sound psychiatric care is not assembled quickly. At Cardinal Health Services, we hold that a thorough diagnostic process, a clinician who knows you across time, and a treatment plan grounded in evidence are the conditions under which lasting progress becomes possible.

Cardinal Health Services was established on the conviction that outpatient behavioral health in North Carolina deserved the same depth of clinical rigor one would expect from any specialty medical practice. The founding view was straightforward: adults seeking psychiatric care are not seeking a transaction, they are seeking a sustained professional relationship that can hold complexity and adapt as their lives change.

How we work

Diagnostic Precision

A careful, unhurried evaluation is the precondition for every other clinical decision we make. Our psychiatrists take the time to arrive at a well-reasoned formulation before recommending any course of treatment, because a mischaracterized diagnosis wastes the one resource patients cannot recover: time.

Continuity of Clinician

Patients at Cardinal Health Services are not rotated among providers based on schedule availability. You work with the same clinician across evaluations, medication adjustments, and follow-up appointments, so that institutional knowledge about your history does not have to be rebuilt from scratch at every visit.

Evidence-Anchored Treatment

We draw exclusively from treatment modalities supported by the published empirical literature. When a newer approach lacks a sufficient evidence base, we say so plainly rather than incorporate it into practice prematurely.

Coordinated Behavioral Health

Psychiatry and psychotherapy are most effective when the clinicians delivering them are in communication with one another. Our integrated structure allows prescribers and therapists to share relevant clinical context, with patient consent, so that medication decisions and therapeutic work can inform rather than operate independently of each other.

What we hold ourselves to

  • Precision before speed. a treatment recommendation issued before a formulation is complete is a recommendation without a reliable basis, and we will not issue one.
  • Respect for clinical complexity. we do not reduce a patient's presentation to its most obvious feature; comorbidities, life history, and contextual stressors receive equal attention in our evaluations.
  • Transparent communication. patients are entitled to understand the reasoning behind their diagnosis and treatment plan in plain language, and our clinicians make that explanation a standard part of every significant clinical encounter.
  • Appropriate humility. medicine does not eliminate uncertainty, and we will not pretend otherwise; when evidence is limited or a case is unusually complex, we say so and discuss it with the patient directly.
  • Privacy as a clinical value. the confidentiality of our patients' records and conversations is treated as a substantive ethical obligation, not merely a regulatory compliance matter.
  • Longevity in the therapeutic relationship. we consider an enduring clinician-patient relationship to be a clinical asset, not an administrative default, and we structure our practice to support it.

Our clinical team

The clinical staff at Cardinal Health Services comprises board-certified psychiatrists and fully licensed psychotherapists who hold advanced degrees in their respective disciplines and maintain active engagement with continuing medical and continuing education requirements. We extend offers to clinicians whose credentials reflect not only academic preparation but a demonstrated orientation toward careful, relationship-centered practice. No clinician at this practice works under provisional or temporary licensure for adult psychiatric care.

When you're ready, we are too.
