Behavioral health services

Our services

We offer integrated behavioral health care: psychiatric medication management, psychotherapy, couples and family work, and specialty programs. Care is available in person and through secure telehealth, where clinically appropriate.

01

Telehealth

Secure video appointments through Cardinal Health Services are conducted on a HIPAA-compliant platform and deliver the same clinical encounter that patients receive in the office, adapted for remote presentation. Telehealth is available for both psychiatric medication management and psychotherapy sessions, and patients may transition between in-person and video care as their circumstances require. We maintain the same documentation, follow-up intervals, and clinical standards regardless of the modality in which the appointment occurs.

Where clinically appropriate, both psychiatric care and psychotherapy are available through HIPAA-compliant telehealth. The same clinicians, the same care — delivered to wherever you can find a quiet, private space within your state of residence.

  • Telepsychiatry medication management
  • Teletherapy for psychotherapy and couples care
  • Secure, HIPAA-compliant platform
  • Equal-fee, in-network billing where your plan permits

Specialty Care

Cardinal Health Services has organized focused clinical programming in several areas where the adult population in North Carolina carries a particularly high burden of unmet need. These specialty programs bring together psychiatry and therapy within a coordinated framework, allow clinicians with relevant experience to take on appropriate cases, and provide patients with a structured pathway rather than an improvised one. Current specialty emphasis includes anxiety disorders, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and perinatal mental health for adults.

Some conditions benefit from a clinician with focused training. Our specialty programs are organized around the diagnostic categories that present most often in adult outpatient behavioral health, staffed by clinicians with additional training in each area.

  • Anxiety disorders
  • Mood disorders
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Perinatal mental health
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Grief and loss
  • Chronic medical conditions co-occurring with psychiatric illness

Couples & Family Care

Relational and family therapy at Cardinal Health Services addresses the systemic patterns that individual work alone is not positioned to resolve. Our clinicians who provide this care have formal training in relational treatment models and work with couples and adult family members on communication, conflict, role renegotiation, and the relational dimensions of one member's psychiatric condition. Sessions are scheduled with both parties present unless a clinical rationale supports a different structure.

Relationships are part of behavioral health. Our couples and family clinicians are trained in evidence-based systemic and relational modalities, and care is delivered with the same evidence base as our individual treatment.

  • Couples therapy (Emotionally Focused Therapy, Gottman Method-informed)
  • Family therapy for adults and adult-child family units
  • Parent guidance for adults navigating parenting under stress
04

Psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy at Cardinal Health Services is delivered by licensed therapists who select modalities based on the specific diagnosis and the patient's stated goals rather than applying a single framework to every presentation. Sessions are scheduled consistently, and the therapeutic relationship is expected to develop over time with sufficient depth to hold difficult material. Approaches in use across our therapy staff include cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and acceptance-based frameworks.

Our therapists are independently licensed (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LPC, PsyD, or PhD) and matched to your care based on your goals and the modalities best suited to them. Sessions are typically scheduled weekly or biweekly to start.

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
  • Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills
  • Psychodynamic and supportive psychotherapy
  • Trauma-focused care
  • Perinatal and postpartum-specific therapy

Psychiatry & Medication Management

Psychiatric care at Cardinal Health Services begins with a comprehensive evaluation that maps the full diagnostic picture before any pharmacological recommendation is made. Follow-up appointments are structured to allow adequate time for reviewing symptom progression, tolerability, functional status, and any emerging clinical concerns. Medication management at this practice is a continuous clinical process, not a series of brief check-ins.

Our psychiatric care is delivered by physicians who completed an MD or DO, a four-year residency in psychiatry, and who hold board certification from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Visits are scheduled at the frequency your care requires.

  • Diagnostic psychiatric evaluation
  • Ongoing psychiatric medication management
  • Coordination with primary care & specialty providers
  • Care for mood disorders, anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma, perinatal mental health, and major life transitions
  • Telehealth or in-person at your preference

Care begins with a conversation.
